The FTSE Gold Mines Index Series is designed to reflect the performance of the worldwide market in the shares of companies, the revenues of which are primarily derived from the mining of gold. A company's eligibility is based on it being able to consistently produce a minimum quantity of gold per annum, and on a minimum percentage of its revenues being derived from mined gold. The indexes are suitable for benchmarking purposes and as tools in the creation of a wide variety of financial products, such as index-linked funds, exchange traded funds (ETFs) and derivatives contracts.
